(12 September 2017)

Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre organises the Industrial Arbitration Forum

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre, known as TAHKEEM, will hold The Industrial Arbitration Forum at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre on Sunday 25th October 2017 to highlight key and best practices in areas of commercial arbitration locally and regionally.

The forum, which will bring together a number of officials and representatives of government departments, local companies and institutions, representatives of private sector companies, as well as a number of specialists, jurists and businessmen, will discuss the role of credit insurance in the industrial sector. The event will spotlight the challenges facing the sector and its workers, including impediments encountered in this field and dispute settlement methods.

The forum will feature two panel sessions; the first discussion will be themed "Credit Insurance's Role in Workings of the Industrial Sector”, while the second session will be titled "Conflicts Facing the Industrial Sector".

The two sessions will also include an array of topics related to the mechanism of credit insurance and its contribution to stimulating the industrial sector. A series of relevant issues will be addressed during the two sessions, including, the importance of credit insurance in the industrial sector; the interrelationship with commercial arbitration; benefits of credit insurance; the importance of corporate credit rating; the mechanism of determining financial capabilities in the industrial sector; the mechanism for identifying, selecting and benefiting suppliers; and conflicts faced by institutions and the role of arbitration in reducing them.

Commenting on the event, H.E. Abdullah Deaifis, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre, said, "Through this one-day event, we aim to familiarise the audience with commercial arbitration concepts, its mechanisms and objectives in addition to shedding light on the role assumed by the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre and its competencies. We also seek to open the door for specialists and interested parties to exchange views and benefit from the experience of each other in all aspects related to the industrial arbitration, besides identifying challenges faced by the industrial sector and highlighting solutions thereto.”

He added, "The goal of this forum is a continuation of our efforts to promote commercial arbitration at the local and regional levels and to continue our strategic plan aimed at targeting all economic, commercial and industrial sectors."

Over the last two years, the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre has organised several seminars, workshops and training courses, including the Real Estate Arbitration Forum in 2016 and the Arbitration and the Banking Sector at the beginning of this year to promote commercial arbitration concepts and conflict resolution mechanisms. Such forums strengthen TAHKEEM's role as a leading centre in the field of commercial arbitration at the local and regional levels.
