Technical Seminars To Power Steelfab 2012
(4 January 2012)

Series Of Technical Seminars Lined Up For Trade Show To Be Held At Expo Centre Sharjah

The upcoming steel fabrication and metal working trade show – SteelFab 2012 – will be powered by an impressive lineup of technical seminars that take up key topics ranging from welding and cutting to materials handling and dust collection.

SteelFab 2012 will be held at Expo Centre Sharjah from January 9 to 12, with the technical seminars being held on the second the third days of the show.

“Apart from disseminating knowledge, technical seminars offer an opportunity for visitors to check out latest product offerings, their uniqueness and effectiveness, technical innovations, industry developments and listen to people who are professionals in their respective area of expertise,” said Mr Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, Director-General of Expo Centre Sharjah.

“This is an added benefit for visitors since they are not only benefiting from an exhibition which is the largest show of its kind in the entire Middle East and North Africa region, but can also make the most of these knowledge-sharing platform held alongside,” he added.

Materials handling is one of the new special focus areas of SteelFab 2012 and two of the technical seminars will be dedicated to ‘modern crane technology’ and ‘magnetic lifting solutions’.

“Increasing industrial activity has led to automating materials handling in various industries, especially in the steel industry, thus bringing in more production efficiency. But the need of the hour is to ensure that the right kind of machinery and equipment are used and worker safety is taken care of,” Mr Midfa said.

The session on crane technology, to be presented by Kone Cranes, will provide insights into new-generation equipment that are powerful, compact and maneuverable, which can cater to requirements of various industries.

Though material handling systems have helped greatly over the years to reduce the amount of handling of structural steel and plate for fabricators, it has been found that the use of permanent magnetic lifting systems has tremendous cost-saving potential. Visitors can get glimpses into safe and innovative magnetic lifting solutions and their advantages over conventional slings, chains and mechanical grabs at the seminar to be presented by Sarda Magnets.

Robotic solutions have gained currency in the regional industrial world, and the steel fabrication industry has been in the forefront of utilizing this technology, which has proven to help reduce operating costs, improve product quality, increase manufacturing flexibility and reduce material waste. The presentation on robotic solutions for welding by ABB Robotics will look at latest robotic technology that is easy to operate, has advanced sensitivity, needs less interference and are safety compliant.

“Each seminar will be of 30 minutes duration and will be handled by senior representatives from leading manufacturers and dealers who are well versed in the practical as well as theoretical aspects of the products. Nine seminars have been scheduled for January 10, and eight for the second day,” said Mr Midfa.
“The seminar sessions will consist of a technical presentation followed by questions and discussions. They will also present live demonstrations of machinery and equipment,” he said.

“These seminars will be an invaluable experience for the regional metal-working, metal-manufacturing and steel fabrication industry,” he added.

Other topics that will be taken up at the seminars include welding and cutting torches, new welding processes, welding systems, 3D profiling for steel structures, surface preparation and protective coating equipment, good software implementation for metal fabrication shop, hard turning technology, blasting for steel structures, precision shaped grain abrasive products, BIM for steel fabricators, metrology in work shop, new techniques for direct part marking, dust collectors for air pollution control and bevelling solutions.

These sessions will be handled by executives from Abicor Binzel, HCG Profiling Equipment, Airblast, Idronic PTY Ltd, Celada ME, MEC Shotblast, 3M, Tekla ME, ABB Robotics, Merkle Welding, Kone Cranes, Sarda Magnets, Worklogix Middle East, Camfil Farr APC, Lorch ME and NKO Bevelling Machines.

SteelFab 2012 will feature 216 direct exhibitors and more than 600 brands from 26 countries. It will feature machinery & equipment in metal forming, welding & cutting, surface preparation & finishing, grinding & cutting, machining & other allied engineering disciplines.

SteelFab 2012 will be organised by Expo Centre Sharjah with the support from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
