An Introduction to Indian – the Staple Dishes for your Next Visit

Curries and naans have long been a global export, which comes as no surprise given the complexity of flavours and the diversity of dishes with options for both vegetarians and meat lovers. Dubai offers a range of charming restaurants, where you can sink your teeth into some mouth-watering dishes. New to Indian and overwhelmed by the menu? We’ve got you covered. We have compiled a list of the best dishes to try on your way to becoming an Indian food expert.

Chicken Tikka Masala
Chicken Tikka Masala is probably one of the most famous Indian exports (although it is argued that it was actually invented by a Glaswegian). The creamy curry is made from tomatoes and complemented by a mouth-watering marinated chicken. The dish is usually on the less spicy side and offers a great introduction into the diverse flavours and spices of curries.

Samosas
These triangular-shaped treats are filled with perfectly spiced vegetables such as peas, potatoes, and onions and make for a great snack or for accompanying a meal. Samosas have long since moved beyond India and can be found in several Asian countries. Others have taken it upon themselves to find new recipes, including delights such as ricotta and spinach fillings. However, for a truly Indian experience, stick to the traditional spicing.

Chicken Korma
For the first taste of Indian cooking, chicken korma is arguably one of the best dishes with which to get your taste buds accustomed to the rich flavours. The dish is made from a creamy sauce combining ingredients like coconut milk, yoghurt, and butter accompanied by the smoky taste of cumin. The aromatic dish presents a staple on most menus and is one of the easiest dishes to find for delivery on sites like Deliveroo. It is best eaten with a side of traditional naan bread.

Biryani
Biryani is a popular rice dish with an unmistakable taste due to the wealth of spices used for its preparation. It comes in different varieties depending on the region but all versions stand out for their tantalising combination of herbs. Ingredients can include vegetables, meat, or eggs, making it another vegetarian-friendly option. Biryani is not only recommendable due to its flavour but it also reflects the different local and regional cuisines that have adopted it.

Aloo Gobi
Indian cooking not only offers sumptuous mains but also a range of delectable side dishes. Aloo Gobi is one of the all-time favourites across the globe. This dry dish is comprised of cauliflower and potatoes, cooked in a tomato sauce. It is one of the best ways to take the edge of some of the spicier options. It may be rich in carbs, but its flavour is worth every bite.

Kaali Daal
Kaali Daal, also known as Ma Ki Daal, is made from black lentils, which are soaked in a combination of spices until they are tender. Later, they are cooked in a sauce blending different spices. If you are looking to get the most out of Indian cuisine, get your friends together and order a variety of options from the menu. Don’t forget to make Kaali Daal one of them.

For the adventurous, a variety of fusion restaurants have also sprung up in Dubai, giving those delicious recipes a special edge.
