Ruler Of Sharjah Directs To Identify Specialized Centre To Treat Infant With Marginal Growth
(23 June 2012)

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, directed to identify a specialized centre outside the country for the treatment of eight month-old Maryam, who is showing abnormal slow growth.

His Excellency Rashid bin Ahmed Al Sheikh, Chairman of Amiri Court, confirmed on the talk show ‘AlKhat Al Mubasher aired on Sharjah Radio and Television that His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has issued the directive. The instruction was handed out in a quick response to the concern raised by Abu Mohammed, a UAE national, on the same show for his granddaughter.

The directive of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi reflects his keenness and commitment to resolving the challenges faced by his citizens.

In a statement to the Sharjah Media Centre, Abu Mohammed expressed his appreciation for the gesture of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. He highlighted that His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has offered a ray of hope to the family for ending their apprehensions for the infant’s future. He added that his granddaughter did not show any improvements despite the constant treatment that she is receiving in the country. As a last resort, the family sought the support of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.

Eight-month old Maryam is suffering from the lack of enzymes that convert glucose to glycogen, resulting in marginal growth. A rare hereditary disease, it affects one in 20,000 to 40,000 individuals.
